Following the successful debut of Vipera Italian Pilsner, our crisp, aromatic first entry into this new lager-focused lineup, we’re heading in a completely different direction with Miyagi, a beautifully clean Japanese Rice Lager built for drinkability.

At 4.6% ABV and 21 IBU, Miyagi isn’t here to sweep the leg. It’s here to quietly outclass your expectations.

Brewed with a delicate blend of jasmine and white rice, Miyagi pours with a light, silky body and an elegant floral lift that immediately sets it apart. Brewed in the tradition of a German-style black lager (Schwarzbier), Dark Helmet keeps things crisp and clean, with subtle roasted malt notes that whisper instead of shout. The Story Behind Italian Pilsner

The Italian Pilsner is a relatively young style in the long history of brewing. It was first crafted in 1996 by Agostino Arioli at Birrificio Italiano in the Lombardy region of northern Italy near Milan.

Arioli took the classic German pilsner foundation and added something new: dry hopping with noble European hops.

The result was a revelation.

Italian Pilsners maintain the clean, crisp drinkability of a traditional pilsner, but introduce a more expressive hop aroma that delivers herbal, floral, and slightly spicy notes without crossing into IPA territory.

Think of it as a pilsner wearing an Italian suit.

Why “Vipera”?

The name Vipera comes from an ancient symbol rooted in Italian heraldry.

The biscione, often referred to as the vipera, is a mythical serpent depicted with a child in its mouth. It appears in historical coats of arms throughout northern Italy and represents power, transformation, and legend.

For our lager series, the name felt perfect.

A Toast to International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day traces back to the early 1900s, born from labor movements where women stood up for better pay, safer working conditions, and the right to vote. In 1910, a global day recognizing women’s achievements was proposed. By 1911, more than a million people across Europe were rallying in support.

Over a century later, March 8 has become a worldwide celebration of social, economic, and cultural achievements of women. It is both a celebration and a call to continue building equity across every industry, including craft beer.

If you are an Ohio craft beer drinker, you probably know White Rajah. It’s the gold standard for West Coast IPAs in our region – bright, tropical, and aggressively hoppy. But what happens when the lights go out?

Enter Black Rajah.

If you haven’t tried this beer yet because you think “dark beer means heavy stout,” you are missing out on one of The Brew Kettle’s most unique creations. Here is why every White Rajah loyalist needs to grab a 6-pack of the Black:

It’s the Same DNA, Just darker. Black Rajah isn’t a stout; it is a Black IPA (sometimes called a Cascadian Dark Ale). It uses the same aggressive hopping techniques as White Rajah, featuring heavily on Citra hops. You still get those massive waves of tropical fruit, pineapple, and citrus zest that you love in the White version.
